México After the confrontation: stress on police officers in rural Northeastern Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Mexico is currently experiencing a situation of insecurity and violence that has generated concern among different sectors of the population and government agencies. The police force is in charge of confronting and solving this problem, and its members are frequently exposed to risky situations that can affect them physically and/or mentally. Recent confrontations and deaths of police officers in a rural area of the State of Nuevo Leon have raised the alarm causing concern. Objective: to analyze the relationship between stress, anxiety, depression and burnout in police officers of this community. Methodology: cross-sectional correlational study with quantitative approach. A total of 112 police and civil protection officers participated. The measurement of psychological variables was carried out with the following instruments: Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale and the Mexican Resilience Scale for adults. Conclusions: the elements of public safety protection of the population see their mental health diminished due to the stressful situations they face, as well as the experiences of their private life. It is important that, in mental health interventions, care protocols are developed for this population sector, which is constantly exposed to the stress of their work.
